SPA MPQC Mineral Products Courses
We deliver a full suite of SPA MPQC Mineral Products safety passport courses for professionals working within the quarrying, extractives, processing, and related manufacturing industries.
Developed jointly by the Mineral Products Qualifications Council (MPQC) and the Safety Pass Alliance (SPA), these qualifications are the recognised standard for contractor health and safety competency across the sector.
Whether you are new to the industry, looking to build on an existing qualification, or renewing a passport that is approaching its expiry date, we have a course to meet your needs, delivered with the same commitment to quality and practical relevance that defines everything we do at Badger Plant Training.
What the Course Covers
This programme is the complete Quarry Safety Passport course, designed for any contractor operating within the extractives, processing, or related manufacturing industries.
It combines foundational health and safety training with a focus on specific hazards and working practices of the mineral extraction sector.
A Core Day works through six modules covering health and safety law and individual responsibilities, risk assessment principles, safe working behaviours, and common workplace hazards including fire, asbestos, confined spaces, electricity, and manual handling. It also addresses health considerations such as noise, hazardous substances, and stress, as well as first aid, road safety, accident reporting, and environmental responsibilities.
The Quarry Day builds directly on this foundation, turning attention to the risks and challenges that are particular to quarrying environments. Delegates explore danger areas including unprotected edges, lagoons, and blasting operations, as well as the safe management of mobile plant and heavy vehicles, crane operations, and slinging. The programme also covers working at height, hazardous operations such as isolation and lock-off procedures, excavations and confined spaces, health risks from dust, noise, and vibration, the correct use of personal protective equipment, and environmental considerations including air, land, and water pollution.
Who Should Attend
This course is suitable for anyone working within or entering the extractives and mineral products industry, from operatives through to managers and supervisors. No formal entry requirements apply, though delegates are expected to have a good working knowledge of spoken and written English.
Certification
Delegates who successfully complete all module assessments will be issued with the SPA MPQC Quarry Safety Passport, which is valid for three years. To maintain certification, a one-day refresher course must be completed before the passport expires.
